FAQs

I have recently bought a house and am going to renovate a portion of the house. Is my electrical system adequate?

Generally if the square footage of the house is increased and there are additional demands on the heating and air conditioning system, this will call for an upgrade of the electrical system. Also, renovating certain areas of the house (for example, the kitchen and bathrooms) may require numerous additional circuits to meet current code requirements.

I have an older Victorian home and have been told that I have knob and tube wiring in the attic. Is this type of wiring safe?

In a few limited situations, the code allows this kind of wiring. However, in many cases the rules have not been followed properly and this type of wiring is found to be in violation of the code. Local inspection authorities usually recommend that this type of wiring be completely removed and replaced with modern wiring methods.

Most of the outlets in my house have only two prongs. Does this mean my house needs to be rewired for modern appliances including computers?

Many older homes with two-wire ungrounded systems do not have adequate branch circuit wiring for modern high wattage appliances. Grounded appliances with three prongs on the plug require a true, grounded outlet with a three-wire system. It is usually recommended that the areas of the house such as the kitchen and bathrooms be brought up to current code standards with three-wire grounded outlets, including ground fault current interrupter receptacles. It is recommended that computers be served with a separate circuit dedicated for the computer alone.

I am planning to move my company to a new office space. Can Intown Electric assess the existing electrical system and determine if it is adequate to meet my needs?

Yes. Intown Electric would first determine the electrical requirements for your office, warehouse or manufacturing needs and examine the property to assess its adequacy. Intown Electric would then make a proposal as needed to meet your office needs.

I need to create an inter-office computer network but lack the knowledge and the wiring to achieve it. Can Intown Electric help me?

We provide a one-stop service with both electrical and telecommunications hardwiring for office networking.
