Most of the outlets in my house have only two prongs. Does this mean my house needs to be rewired for modern appliances including computers?

February 26, 2008 - February 26, 2009
Many older homes with two-wire ungrounded systems do not have adequate branch circuit wiring for modern high wattage appliances. Grounded appliances with three prongs on the plug require a true, grounded outlet with a three-wire system. It is usually recommended that the areas of the house such as the kitchen and bathrooms be brought up to current code standards with three-wire grounded outlets, including ground fault current interrupter receptacles. It is recommended that computers be served with a separate circuit dedicated for the computer alone.
